Wordy Wednesday

I’m on holiday this week and my word of the week is holiday. There’s nothing like time away from home, exploring new things and being away from the usual commitments.

The origin of the word is from Old English hāligdæg, which is literally holy day. (Collins English Dictionary)

I am blessed to be in Scotland, a place I love deeply and have been visiting all my life. I’m in Perthshire and I remember my dad always extolling the virtues of the clean air here.

Where’s your favourite place to holiday?

  1. My favourite place on holiday is usually the the last place I’ve been. Can’t remember a holiday I haven’t enjoyed, whether Knaresborough or the Galapagos, Bruges or Canada, Alness or New York, Prague or Vienna, Shrewsbury or Kent, Norfolk or Berwick on Tweed, Aberdeen or Edinburgh, Lille or Budapest. Such memories, such tea towels. Ask me next time and Perth might be on my listBarbara

  2. We’ve just come back from our Holiday down in West Sussex. Selham, camping at Hurlands_camping, A wild camping spot on a farm. Charlie put us up 2 bell tents, supplied water, logs and a barbecue. Sausages and marshmallows for dinner!! (We supplied) Our granddaughter was with us, hence the marshmallows. But really, we wanted them too. Hot sun and river swimming. Winnie came too. (Our Collie dog) Best place to holiday for us. Oh, and we got to watch the cows being milked.

  3. We’ve just come back from a five-day break in the Lake District. I’d never been before, but I absolutely loved it. We stayed near Coniston, in a beautiful cottage on a farm. I’m a keen hobbyist photographer and captured some lovely scenic photos. It’s definitely a place we’re going to re-visit.

I hope you enjoy your well deserved holiday, Liz.

  4. Perthshire is lovely – I’ve always loved it in autumn best when the trees change colour.

As far as favourite places go, anywhere away from crowds and people! i particularly love Northumberland with its spectacular, empty beaches (I always visit once everyone has gone home!) But so many places are lovely – and you often don’t have to go very far
