This week I am really pleased at how wonderful the produce from my small garden is. Delicious new potatoes, enough mini cucumbers for us and our neighbours, mint, rocket … It’s very satisfying to eat food you’ve grown yourself. Fresh blueberries every morning with breakfast is a real treat.

It’s Friday again and time to reflect on achievements, or things I’m pleased about this week. I’d love to hear your Flaunt it Friday too.
I’ll admit it, I’m not someone who finds it easy to ask something of others; offering comes much easier. This makes the task of promoting my children’s book, The Clocker, a challenge. It’s not something you do just once either; it’s an ongoing process. I find it easy to decide it’s not worth asking when, the reality is, I don’t find asking comes naturally. As the saying goes, if you don’t ask ….
With this in mind, I’m pleased that I’ve reached out to several people this week, asking them to review my book. Even if I’m trudging along, I’m putting one foot in front of the other and I keep going.
This week has been challenging. It’s been a struggle to get through the days and nights of heat. We cancelled a theatre trip we were looking forward to and the school visit I was doing today has been rescheduled.
On the upside, being confined to the house with all the curtains drawn has given me the chance to write every day. I’m lucky that the room where I do my writing is relatively cool.
How’s your week been?
I’ve been doing more reaching out to libraries this week. I have dates in my diary for Nottingham libraries and thought I’d see if any in Nottinghamshire would be interested. Libraries are great places where I can read from my children’s book, The Clocker, as well as getting children to do some of their own writing.
I’m feeling positive and looking forward to meeting some of my target audience.

I had to add a mark 2 flaunt it Friday having finally cracked my Image Playground problem on Jetpack.
Unfortunately, I can’t claim any great skill in getting it to return despite much faffing about. I sorted it on my laptop, thought I’d check it on my phone and hey presto!
I’ve felt a bit discombobulated this week, maybe returning home after a relaxing holiday or, perhaps, just one of those odd weeks.
I’ve been trying to sort out, since Wordy Wednesday, why my image playground has disappeared. Had lots of helpful suggestions but nothing has worked.
As for Flaunt it Friday, I’ve made it through. Sometimes that’s it and, after all, a nice pot of tea always helps!
I’m away on holiday this week and it feels really special because, last year, I had to cancel several holidays due to ill health. I’d rebooked this one with fingers firmly crossed that we’d make it. And we did. It feels like a big achievement.
What have you done this week that you’re pleased with?
I was chuffed, on Wednesday evening at my writing group, to be asked to read the piece I’d written. It was also wonderful to have encouragement to submit the piece to Best of British magazine, which I’m going to do.
The prompt for this month’s session was music and it was great to see the many ways group members had interpreted it. We had poems, short stories and memoir pieces. An uplifting evening.
It’s Friday again. What are you pleased with yourself about this week?
I’m delighted to have had several more reviews of my children’s book, The Clocker. Especially gratifying were these two comments: “Once I started reading the Clocker, I couldn’t put it down” and “I can’t imagine a young person who wouldn’t love this book”.
It’s an amazing feeling when people not only read your book but take the time to write a review. It reminds me of the importance of doing this for other authors.
Oh, I also managed a volunteer shift at the charity shop with no internet, ergo no card payments. Cash only – like being back in the 70s.
It’s been a good week. I met with someone from Nottingham Central Library Service. We have dates in the diary for 2 library events during the summer holidays, plus 2 days of school events in local libraries. I’ll be reading from my book, The Clocker, and doing a writing session with the children.
As well as these events, I’ll be doing more with Leicester Libraries Service.
I’m really looking forward to introducing my book to groups of children.
It’s going to be an exciting summer.
