Wordy Wednesday

This week I have a wordy challenge for you. Susan, who is part of the same writing group as me, sent me a few words. She says that her personal favourite, which she’s never been able to introduce into a conversation is cummerbund.

First to the meaning and origin. Collins Online English Dictionary describes a cummerbund, or kummerbund, as a wide sash worn with a dinner jacket. It’s origin is 17th century from the Hindi word kamarband or kamar from Persian.

Can you send your serious, humorous, ridiculous (but not rude!) ways to introduce the word cummerbund into conversation? Here’s mine:

Did you see Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday? Several of the dancers were wearing cummerbunds.

How smart he looked in his cummerbund

  1. “I loved that actor who played Sherlock Holmes – Benedictine Cummerband wasn’t it?”

“Not quite, darling. Now drink your coffee.”

    Great word Liz and Susan.
