Wordy Wednesday

As I’m still waiting for my second cataract surgery and, thus, a proper prescription for reading glasses , I continue to listen to audiobooks.

I decided to catch up with the Number One Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. Set in Botswana, these are wonderfully gentle stories, read by Adjoa Andoh, who expertly captures all the different characters.

As I was listening recently, my ears pricked up at a word with three meanings. The literal meaning of the Setswana word pula is rain. Pula also extends its meaning to blessing or fortune, serving as the country’s motto. Rain is much revered, hence the blessing let there be rain. Finally, pula has been the national currency since 1976.

Listening to audiobooks and learning new words and meanings

Flaunt it Friday

This week I have focused on contacting the libraries in my region to ask them to consider stocking my book. Nottingham and Nottinghamshire libraries are already stocking it and I thought I’d spread the net a bit wider. I am delighted to have already had one positive response from Derbyshire Library Service. They’re going to order a few to see what the take up is like and then consider ordering more. It’s very exciting to imagine my book on the shelves in libraries waiting for children to pick it up and take it home.

My Books

Libraries are a great resource and a gateway to reading for many children

Flaunt it Friday

It’s been a good week. I met with someone from Nottingham Central Library Service. We have dates in the diary for 2 library events during the summer holidays, plus 2 days of school events in local libraries. I’ll be reading from my book, The Clocker, and doing a writing session with the children.

As well as these events, I’ll be doing more with Leicester Libraries Service.

I’m really looking forward to introducing my book to groups of children.

It’s going to be an exciting summer.

What have you done that you’re pleased with this week?
