It’s that time of the week to share what you’re pleased with.

A few months back, I contacted Young Page Turners UK to ask if they’d consider reviewing my children’s book, The Clocker My Books

I got a response quite quickly saying yes and asking me to post a copy to the reviewer, which I did. This week I had an email with an apology for the delay and a link to the review on their website. Young Page Turners are passionate about books and they provide independent reviews of children’s and YA books. They do not charge for this service.

Not only was the review 5* but gives a comprehensive insight into the book and its appeal. I loved this – “ The Clocker, in particular, becomes a symbol of courage and self-acceptance. Through his daily care he provides for his hens, Nev also learns to care for himself, discovering an inner strength he didn’t realise he had.”

After some set-backs, this week has been positive. Despite the challenge of not being able to drive at the moment (cataracts), I’ve picked myself up and got organised. Train and hotel bookings are sorted so that I can still get to Liverpool Book Festival in August, where I’m sharing a stand with a fellow children’s author. I’ve calculated the maximum number of books and bookmarks we can manage to take. Phew.

On Monday, I heard from my contact at the library that there’d been some bookings for the 2 library events I’m doing next month. She’s also asked me to sign some books as they’re going to be given as prizes for a different library event. All very exciting and uplifting just at the moment I needed it.

It’s been a busy week for me, one of new challenges as I prepare for the publication of my children’s book, The Clocker. As writers, we spend hours plotting stories, bringing characters to life, writing, revising and editing until we’re happy with the result.

Even with the backup of a publisher, there’s still more to do, as an author, and this involves heading into an unknown land. Pushing myself out there, getting help from others, speaking to strangers doesn’t come easily to me. I might be writing Flaunt it Friday but it all feels a bit alien and uncomfortable.

It has been wonderful to receive positive and helpful support not only from friends and family but my writing community at The Writer’s Bureau Let’s Write group.
